Gamebook Friday: Howl of the Werewolf "The best gamebook in history!" (Apparently.)

I know that Howl of the Werewolf is popular, but is it really the best gamebook in history? Certainly it topped a poll of fan favourites, but that was thanks in part to Martin McKenna's fabulous artwork. And I certainly enjoyed writing it. But is it really the best gamebook ever?

Well one reviewer thinks so:

This is the best gamebook I EVER read, nothing more, nothing less.

It is not just a great GAME, with its own challenges and riddles to solve, but it is also a great BOOK, very well written and with good literary value, with great atmospheres and descriptions (all functional to the game!), a coherent world and a great entertaining experience.

If you think you have already seen enough (literary) werewolves, dread villages with mobs carrying torches and pitchforks, decadent travelling circuses, ghosts, witches, houses surrounded by packs of wolves, headless riders, violin-playing tzigans, animated cadavers, vampires and the like, well... you still have to read this book, really!!!

Head and shoulder above most other Fighting Fantasy books, I can only recommend it warmly!!!

If you're as yet undecided, you can pick up your copy of the book here.

  1. Are you gonna reprint this book? I'm looking for it and it nowhere to be found; it's sold out everywhere, going as high as 320$ cad for a 2010 copy ( no joke, check there goo.gl/AaZjE5 ).

  2. Unfortunately it's not my decision whether the book gets reprinted or not, and it doesn't look like Wizard are going to be reprinting anymore FF books at the moment.

But there's always the possibility Tin Man Games might publish an app version...
