Thirty years ago today - 27 August 1982 - the first ever Fighting Fantasy adventure gamebook, written by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain was published.It is fair to say that no one book has had such a profound effect on my life and if it had not been for Warlock, I might not be a writer today. A sobering thought indeed.
So, Happy Birthday, Zagor the Warlock and the Fighting Fantasy phenomenon! And thank you.

And 30 years later the FF books still give me a sense of magic and wonder, a butterflies in the stomach type of thrill.
It was a great day in Western Civilization when the first FF books appeared on shelves.
