Warhammer Wednesday: Black Library Weekender II

Tickets are now available for the Black Library Weekender II.

This year's event was fantastic and if you're free (and a fan of the work of the Black Library) you really should go.

Unfortunately I have a prior engagement for that weekend in 2013 so here's to the Black Library Weekender III in 2014!

Warhammer Wednesday: The Black Library Weekender

If you were here on Monday, you will have already seen my blog post about Black Library's biggest event ever (to date).

Others have, of course, written about their own experiences. Here a few links to some of them:

The inaugural Black Library Weekender

So (just in case you've not check my blog over the last month or so) this past weekend I was in Nottingham for the first ever Black Library Weekender. And it was awesome.

I could spend ages here waxing lyrical about all the wonderful people I met, how as soon as I arrived I was nabbed to sign books, how fascinating the panels were, and what the evening ents were all about, but instead I'll restrict myself to a few photos and a list of things I didn't know before the event butI do now.

After all, I've been inspired by my two days in Nottingham in November and there's work to be done!

The weekend was as awesome as this banner suggests.

Matt brought along his collection of JG 40K fiction to be signed. Which was nice.

Cthulhu (courtesy of Clint Werner) and a glass of wine (courtesy of one of Graham McNeill's fans).

These two really should have won Pitch Factor.

New friend Matt Sylvester and old friend Rob Sanders. Fantastic to see both of them.

Signing after the Gamebooks panel during which Christian Dunn claimed that I've written more gamebooks than anybody else. (This claim is yet to be verified.)

Clint Werner (who sounds just how you imagine from this photo) and Yours Truly.

My book stash from the weekend.

Ten things I didn't know before the BL Weekender but which I do now

1) The Kingdom of Billdonia is under threat from the emerging state of Danistan.
2) Raymond Swanland can wax lyical about the merits of illustration and commercial art for ages.
3) One fan from Washington D.C. didn't have a passport when he booked his place at the Weekender.
4) Michael Knight and Christian Dunn are natural showmen.
5) Laurie Goulding does a mean Bane impression.
6) Rob Sanders may just be an Untouchable.
7) Josh Reynolds isn't the hero Black Library needs right now, but he's the hero it deserves.
8) Graeme Lyon is editing The Book of the Lion.
9) Black Library are publishing a 100 page original Horus Heresy graphic novel written by Dan Abnett and illustrated by Neil Roberts.
10) Shadows over Sylvania is out in February!

Just a quick reminder, if you're heading to the Black Library Weekender today (Sunday 4 November), that you will find me taking part in a seminar about Gamebooks between 11.15am and 12.15pm*, along with Christian Dunn and Graeme Lyon.

Maybe I'll see you there.

Look at me, looking all serious...

Forthcoming Events

A quick round-up of events you can find me at over the coming weeks...

Games Day 2012
Sunday 23 September
I will be attending Games Day next weekend and - as well as wandering around checking out the participation battles, Design Studio revelations and the rest - I shall be hanging out at the Black Library stand, from time to time. So if you see me, and want me to sign a copy of Herald of Oblivion, or The Armageddon Omnibus, or whatever, do ask. Maybe I'll see you there.

FantasyCon 2012
Friday 28 - Sunday 30 September
I'm going to FantasyCon again this year (although I've got a fair bit of work to do before then!) arriving around about Friday lunchtime and leaving around Sunday lunchtime. As well as attending the obligatory Saturday night disco, I shall be taking part in the following*:

Friday - 2.00pm-3.00pm - FITZHERBERT ROOM - 'Blurring the Genre Boundaries' panel
Saturday - 5.00pm-6.00pm - RUSSELL ROOM - 'Is Steampunk Here to Stay?' panel
Sunday - 10.30am-11.00am - ROOM 134 - Jonathan Green Reading

Black Library Weekender
Saturday 3 - Sunday 4 November
I shall also be attending the Black Library Weekender. Specifically you'll find me taking part in a seminar about Gamebooks on the Sunday, 11.15am-12.15pm*, along with Christian Dunn and Graeme Lyon.

And that's your lot for now. More events and public appearances will be added as and when...

Black Library Weekender - will you be going?

I've known about this one for a while (as have a number of you, I expect) but today Black Library posted some more details about the Black Library Weekender that's taking place on 3-4 November 2012.

This event is for the dedicated BL fan, for whom there are Silver Tickets available. However, for the truly dedicated dedicated BL fan, there are the exclusive Golden Tickets (a la Willy Wonka, I guess).

To find about more about this event, click here.

And while we're on the subject of the Black Library, why not vote for William King's Blood of Aenarion to win the David Gemmell Legend Award this year?
