As I'm sure many people my age did, I grew up on a steady diet of Ray Harryhausen movies, which were usually shown on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I've shown children I've taught Jason and the Argonauts (which is still a classic) and they loved it as much as I did when I was their age.
I can't begin to work out how big an impact the special effects maestro had on my work, but I can direct you to some direct homages, such as the Cyclops in Curse of the Mummy.
In this video clip Ray Bradbury (who is also, sadly, no longer with us) pays tribute to Ray Harryhausen, who died on Tuesday aged 92.
"The modern master of the gamebook format" (Rob Sanders)... "Can do dark very well" (Jonathan Oliver)... "Green gets mileage out of his monsters" (SFX Magazine)... "It takes a firm editorial hand and a keen understanding of the tone of each piece to make a collection this diverse work, and Green makes it look effortless" (Starburst Magazine)... "A charming blend of camp creatures, humour, and genuine horror" (Set the Tape)
