Gamebook Friday: JG at Nine Worlds Geekfest 2015

I shall be at Nine Worlds Geekfest this weekend (7-9 August 2015), at the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Heathrow.

The reason for posting this news under the 'Gamebook Friday' banner is because I am there in my capacity as an author of gamebooks and games designer.

On Friday night I shall be taking part in Knightmare Live,at 8.00pm in Commonwealth...

Following which I shall be attending the Rebellion Publishing Party (Books, Booze & Kazoos) in Royal B from 10.15pm (should I survive the dungeon, that is).

On Sunday, after a signing session in Commonwealth East (11.00-11.30am), I shall be moving next door to Commonwealth West to take part in the debate TV vs Books vs Comics vs Games: FIGHT! (11.45am-1.00pm) during which I shall be championing the cause of Games (unless things change again before the weekend is over).

On top of all that, a number of GAME OVER contributors are appearing at Nine Worlds this weekend and are planning a meet-up on Saturday evening. So do come and find us (in a bar probably) and chat to us about what's going to be in the book.

A Summer of Events

I'm going to be appearing at a number of events over the summer, either in my capacity as a writer and designer of gamebooks, or as an editor of short story anthologies, or as an author of Steampunk novels.

Saturday 11th July 2015
Edge-Lit 4
SHARKPUNK is sponsoring the 5:15pn panel 'Short and Sweet – Writing and Selling Short Stories', featuring Andrew Hook, Kim Lakin-Smith (SHARKPUNK contributor), Alison Littlewood, and Gav Thorpe (GAME OVER contributor), with Adele Wearing chairing.

Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th July 2015
London Film and Comic Con
I shall be appearing in the Book Zone, talking about SHARKPUNK and Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland.

Friday 7th & Sunday 9th August 2015
Nine Worlds Geekfest
I will be appearing as a guest at this year's Nine Worlds. More details to be revealed later...

Saturday 29th - Sunday 30th August 2015
Weekend at the Asylum VII
This will be my fourth stay at the asylum. I will be appearing at the Westgate Academy, which is home to the literature and gaming zones, and the other authors, publishers, games companies and gamers will also be based here. Admission is by wristband only, and there is going to be a mini street food festival in the grounds of the Academy.

And don't forget...

Ending at 1.00pm BST Monday 3rd August 2015
Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland on Kickstarter
If you've ever wondered what would have happened if Alice hadn’t drunk from the bottle labelled ‘Drink Me’, or if she hadn’t joined the Hatter, the March Hare, and the Dormouse for tea, now you can find out. In Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland, rather than becoming Alice yourself, YOU guide Alice through the fluctuating dream world, deciding which route she should take, which perils to risk, and which of Wonderland’s strange denizens to fight. But be warned – whether Alice succeeds in her quest, or meets a dire end as the nightmare escalates, will be down to the choices YOU make. But remember, this book can't happen without YOU!

Maybe I'll see you there...

Nine Worlds Geekfest - Day 3

I shall be at the Nine Worlds Geekfest at the Renaissance Hotel in Heathrow, just outside London, again today. (You can find out more about the epic event here.)

1.00pm - 2.00pm - Signing at the Forbidden Planet stand.

Nine Worlds Geekfest 2013

With one event down, it's time to tell you about the next public appearance I have coming up.

I shall be one of the guest authors/part of the Steampunk posse taking part in the Nine Worlds Geekfest 2013 in London this summer. (There's a handy countdown clock at the top of the right hand sidebar.)

From the official press release:

As well as including the core elements of traditional science fiction conventions like literature and film, Nine Worlds seeks to broaden the scope of geekery to include many aspects of popular science and technology, while dispensing with the whole celeb photo and signing machine that turns many sci-fi events into all-day queuing marathons. As co-organiser Ludi Valentine explains, “Our guests are the writers, and creators, and scientists, the people who make awesome things happen, people with amazing stories to tell, and cool stuff to show you.”

The sweet smell of success, the bitter taste of defeat

So, as far as Kickstarters go, that's one successfully funded and one failed project.

After the resounding success that was the YOU ARE THE HERO Kickstarter I had great hopes for Clemency Slaughter and the Legacy of D'Eath, partly because it was a collaboration (so should reach a wider audience), partly because I thought various communities on Facebook would get behind it (which they didn't), and partly because we were asking for less money than I had with YOU ARE THE HERO. However, it was not to be.

The publisher Ian Whates and myself have already discussed running the Kickstarter again, in a couple of months time (possibly to coincide with the Nine Worlds Geek Fest), and the artist Tom Brown has said he hopes to work on some more of the artwork for the project between commissions.

Some fans of the project have suggested Unbound as a possible funding source but that's not something we've had a chance to discuss yet. And we did end up with 90 backers, many of whom were very passionate about the project.

Thank you, if you were one of them, and hang on in there - Clemency Slaughter's not dead and buried yet...
