As part of a year-long celebration of 10 years of ACE Gamebooks, I will be there, sharing Sir Ian Livingstone's stand in Solo Roleplaying Games and Interactive Gamebooks section.

Cover Reveal - The Tides of Innsmouth

Yesterday, at Dragonmeet, Aconyte Books revealed the cover for my second Arkham Horror Investigators Gambook, The Tides of Innsmouth. And here it is...

The cover art is by Joshua Cairós, with cover design by Nick Tyler. Joshua also provided the cover art for The Darkness Over Arkham, and The Tides of Innsmouth follows the same pattern of having a location and one of the Investigators featured in the adventure, appearing inside the cutout of a gribbly monster that may make an appearance too.

I love this cover for all sorts of reasons, but many of those would count as spoilers, so I'll just say that the clouded moon being the monster's eye is definitely one of them.

One of the cool things that Aconyte Books were giving away on their stand was a mock-up of The Arkham Advertiser newspaper.

This in-world artefact includes an advert for The Darkness Over Arkham, among other books, and another that ties in directly to The Tides of Innsmouth. So, make of that what you will..

The Tides of Innsmouth will be published in April 2025.

Gamebook Friday: Jonathan Green to attend Dragonmeet 2024

I must apologise for the lack of Gamebook Friday updates recently. I have in fact been very busy working on multiple gamebook projects, but I still can't say very much about them. However, there will hopefully be at least one announcement at Dragonmeet this year.

I will be attending Dragonmeet on Saturday 30 November 2024, where I will be joining Sir Ian Livingstone on the Fighting Fantasy stand in the Upper Trade Hall (marked in blue on the map below).

GamebookFriday: Moon Knight, a Conclave of Dragons, and William Shakespeare

My author copies of Moon Knight: Age of Anubis arrived this week and I'm delighted with how my first Marvel gamebook has turned out. Remember, the paperback is available now in the US and is released in the UK on 23rd November 2023, but the global eBook is available everywhere now.

In three weeks' time, I will be attending Dragonmeet, at the Novotel London West, on Saturday 2nd December 2023, sharing a table with Sir Ian Livingstone. I will also be signing copies of Moon Knight: Age of Anubis at the Aconyte Books stand while I am there.

And last of all this week, in case you missed the announcement on Wednesday, the next ACE Gamebook is going to be Shakespeare Vs. Cthulhu: What Dreams May Come. Sign up here to be kept up to date with developments.

Signed ACE Gamebooks for sale!

This Thursday I was supposed to have been travelling to the NEC to set up for the UK Games Expo, a fun three-day family gaming convention that is one of only two fixtures (along with Dragonmeet) in my annual event calendar. However, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the event has been cancelled for this year and is going online at the end of August.

So as an alternative to the UK Games Expo, I have set up a small online shop, selling signed paperbacks and hardback book bundles that all come with interesting exclusives. If you missed the original Kickstarters, you will not want to miss this sale.

So don't delay, check it out today!

Gamebook Friday: NaNoWriMo and The Roleplaying Game Before Christmas

Today is something of a day of disappointments.

First of all, I failed to hit the NaNoWriMo target of 50,000 words this year, despite starting with 10,000 words already in the bank. I was about 2,200 away from the target, with two days to go, but then last Friday was taken up with prepping with Dragonmeet and Saturday was Dragonmeet itself, which meant I didn't have any time (or energy) left to make my goal.

On the upside, Dracula - Curse of the Vampire is about one fifth written, and I'm pleased with how it's going. However, it's going to have to go on the back-burner again until the New Year as I have other projects demanding my attention at the moment, and my own stuff always has to take a backseat to paid gigs.

The other reason for my disappointment is that 'TWAS - The Roleplaying Game Before Christmas isn't funding on Kickstarter. Current projections are that it will only reach around 70% of its funding goal. I had really hoped that people would get behind this but so far only about 60 people have, and I need around 200 people to back it to achieve funding. And even then, it will only be at the most basic level, which means there won't be very much more of Tony Hough's artwork, which in itself is disappointing.

Despite having run 12 Kickstarters, and had 9 of them fund, sometimes it feels like I'm starting from scratch when I launch a new one, especially when it's not just another gamebook or history of Fighting Fantasy. Clearly, the people who back my Kickstarters are first and foremost gamebook fans.

I think part of the problem is that sometimes I spread myself too thin and then I don't feel like I'm really accomplishing anything.

But today is another day, and next week is another week. I just need to refocus my attention.

'TWAS - The Roleplaying Game Before Christmas is now funding on Kickstarter.

It is a rules-lite RPG, designed to be picked up and played with minimal preparation, inspired by the legends and literature of Christmas, as well as the ACE Gamebook 'TWAS - The Krampus Night Before Christmas.

If you're going to Dragonmeet on Saturday, you will be able to have a look at a sample chapter from the RPG, as well as some of the artwork that will appear in the book. And while you're there, you can get your 'TWAS gamebooks signed by the illustrator Tony Hough and myself.

Gamebook Friday: 'TWAS the Book Launch and 'TWAS the Roleplaying Game

A week tomorrow, on Saturday 30th November, ACE Gamebooks will be attending Dragonmeet 2019, under the brand's own name for the first time.

I will be there, of course, but so will Tony Hough, my sometime collaborator and the very talented artist behind the illustrations in 'TWAS - The Krampus Night Before Christmas, which is launching at the event.

So come along to Dragonmeet, at the Novotel Hotel in Hammersmith, and get your books signed by both of us. The trade hall will be open from 10:00am.

Talking of 'TWAS, the roleplaying game inspired by the gamebook is coming back to Kickstarter. The campaign will launch on Black Friday, 29th November, and run until the Longest Night, 21st December.

'TWAS - The Roleplaying Game Before Christmas is a rules-lite RPG, designed to be picked up and played with minimal preparation. It is inspired by the legends and literature of Christmas, as well as the ACE Gamebook 'TWAS - The Krampus Night Before Christmas.

The RPG is available in three formats, PDF, softback and hardback.

If you back before Krampusnacht, the 5th December, you will benefit from Early Bird discounts, which will be active for some of the rewards.

You can also pledge to receive print copies of ACE Gamebook that inspired the RPG, if you haven't got it already.

But if you back within the first 24 hours, you will receive a bonus adventure encounter along with a bonus fully playable character, for no extra charge!

So put the date in your diary now, and I'll see you again on Black Friday!
