Dracula: Curse of the Vampire - Flash Sale now on!

It's Spooky Season, so what better time to pick up a copy of the 5th anniversary collector's hardback of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire, and at a knockdown price too?

Gamebook Friday: Dracula - Battesimo di Sangue

I am delighted to report that the Italian language edition of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire is now available for pre-order.

The book's title has had a slight change. Dracula: Battesimo di Sangue translates as Dracula: Baptism of Blood, which is what the French language version is called too.

There are two versions of the cover. The collector's edition, featuring the same cover art as the English edition, by Hauke Kock, and the standard one, which has a brand new piece of art produced by Francesco Crisci*, which is absolutely phenomenal.

I must offer Francesco and the team at Raven Distribution a huge thank you for allowing me to share the new cover art with you here, in full, and without any obscuring text.

So, don't delay and order yours now!

For anyone waiting on the Spanish language edition of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire, I believe it will be published next month.

In other news, the latest episode of ACE Gamebooks: The Gamebook Podcast is out now.

* Who also painted a new cover for the Italian version of Neverland: Here Be Monsters!

World Dracula Day 2026

Today is World Dracula Day, since today would have been Bram Stoker's 179th birthday. 2026 also marks five years since my gamebook adaptation of Stoker's seminal novel - Dracula: Curse of the Vampire - was first published.

Out now is the 5th anniversary hardback of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire. Where the original hardback had a black cover with red text, this new edition has a red cover with black text. And where the original had red page edges, this new edition has black page edges.

I have also produced a new foil bookmark, which will be give away with copies of the new hardback, which will be on sale at the UK Games Expo next weekend.

Meanwhile, those people who supported the Kickstarter I ran to produce this new edition of the sixth ACE Gamebook, will also receive a pack of artwork postcards, a pair of bespoke black dice, and a pin badge in the form of Dracula's crest.

Gamebook Friday: Dracula - Le baptême de sang

The French edition of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire, is currently available for pre-order from Alknost Editions before it's release in June.

Prepare to enter a world of gothic horror for an interactive adventure inspired by the universe of Bram Stoker. Play as the young solicitor's clerk Jonathan Harker, his fiancée Mina Murray, or Dr. John Seward… unless you prefer to embody the bloodthirsty monster itself and hunt down the vampire hunters!

One of the things I like about the Dracula - Le baptême de sang page on the Alknost Editions website is that as well as listing the gamebook's special features, it has a 'Want to know more?' section, which is presented as a series of choices such as might appear at the end of a section in an adventure.

Translated by Joël Mallet and featuring Hauke Kock's original illustrations for the adventure, Dracula - Le baptême de sang is the fifth ACE Gamebooks published by Alknost Editions as part of their Les Contes tordus de Green range.

In other gamebooks news, don't forget that 100 Aker Wood launches on Kickstarter on Tuesday 12th May 2026, at 12pm BST.

Gamebook Friday: Dracula Anniversary Hardback

As of writing, the Kickstarter campaign for the 5th Anniversary Hardback of the ACE Gamebook Dracula: Curse of the Vampire, has just 6 days left to run, but is already 56% funded.

There is now a no frills hardback reward available for £50. So, if you've been holding back from backing the Kickstarter, maybe this option is for you.

If you haven't backed the project yet yourself, here's a reminder of what you will be getting:

  • A hardback of the 1,000 section adventure, in which you can play as either Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray, Dr John Seward, or Count Dracula. This will differ from the original hardback in that the cover will be red with black printing on it.
  • Known errata will be corrected in this new edition and backers of the Kickstarter will have their names featured inside.
  • Each book will be individually signed by the author.

Those people who back at the £70 or £120 reward levels will also receive the following rewards:

  • A collectible bookmark, only available with this edition of the book.
  • A pack of 10 postcards featuring Hauke Kock's artwork.
  • A pair of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire themed black dice.

So don't delay, back today! And please share the project far and wide with your contacts on social media.

Thank you.

World Book Day 2026

As it is World Book Day, I thought I would draw your attention to four gamebooks that may be of interest to you.

Shakespeare Vs. Cthulhu: What Dreams May Come was published last November. YOU take on the role of William Shakespeare himself as he navigates the nightmarish worlds of his plays and comes up against very servants of the Great Old Ones.

Here is what one reviewer had to say about the adventure:

"An absolute joy to flit through the worlds of Shakespeare as you fight your way through to hopefully a successful conclusion. Each read through bringing a little more insight and a better chance to make it out to the other side. This is a fast paced story as you are constantly being thrown from one story to the next and new paths and options unfold before you."

You can buy the paperback of Shakespeare Vs. Cthulhu: What Dreams May Come here, and you can buy a signed hardback direct from me here.

The Kingsport Metamorphosis was published in February and is the third title in the Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebooks series.

A mysterious letter summons you to the seaside town of Kingsport, where dreams leak into reality, to a wealthy estate transformed into a place of unspeakable nightmares. Curious as to why the reclusive Elijah Harcourt has summoned you to his home, you are unsettled when you discover Harcourt’s purpose is far more nefarious than you realized, leaving you and his guests with riddles to solve if you are to survive. As each hour passes, your companions meet terrible fates, forcing you to navigate a spiderweb of betrayal.

Here's what one reviewer has had to say about this adventure:

"Another solid entry in the series (this one stronger on parlor-room mystery vibes than on cosmic horror vibes, though these are present too) from gamebook maestro Jon Green."

You can buy The Kingsport Metamorphosis here.

Valiant is the first Warcradle Studios Gamebook and will be published on Saturday 7th March 2026.

It is the Dystopian Age.

YOU are Valiant, an agent of the Crown Ministry of Intelligence, an unsung hero, working in secret to keep an unstable world from igniting into all-out war. Victoria may reign as Queen, but it is the super-science of the Enlightened that dominates the world thanks to their discovery of otherworldly technologies. The great global superpowers strain against the uneasy detente that exists between them. All it takes is the right agent in the wrong place, so after a secret mission goes disastrously wrong, all that stands between a shadowy conspiracy and global ruin is YOU!

Her Majesty is counting on YOU to end this threat.

Only YOU can save Queen and Country - and perhaps the world!

When asked which release she was looking forward to most in 2026, Warcradle Studios' Game Development Manager Sophie Williams, who worked closely with me on the adventure, had this to say:

"Valiant! I love choose-your-own-destiny books. Play as a Crown spy in the Dystopian Age whilst navigating a story packed with adventure, deciding how you would deal with the challenges ahead, yes please!"

Finally, the 5th anniversary collector's hardback edition of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire is currently funding on Kickstarter.

1897

In the wolf-haunted Carpathian Mountains, a young solicitor, Jonathan Harker, travels to an isolated castle to assist a mysterious Count with purchasing a number of properties in England. But what he witnesses there drives him to the edge of madness…

Meanwhile, in Whitby, Harker’s fiancée, Mina Murray, visits her dear friend Lucy Westenra. But during her stay, Lucy is attacked and becomes seriously ill…

In London, Lucy’s suitor and physician, Dr John Seward, becomes preoccupied with the case of a certain Mr Renfield, an inmate at his lunatic asylum, who seeks to collect lives for his master, having not long returned from a trip to Transylvania…

And so, the pieces for the game are set. For they are all pawns in a plan devised centuries ago by the Voivode of Wallachia, Vlad Tepes, a cruel tyrant whom history remembers as ‘the Son of the Devil’, his bloodthirsty deeds having earned him another name…

Dracula.

The new edition of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire has a red cover, with black lettering, and known errata have been corrected. The book will also include the names of everyone who backs this latest Kickstarter.

Those who back the campaign will also receive some unique rewards including a collectible bookmark, a pair of black Dracula-themed dice, a set of 10 postcards featuring Hauke Kock's artwork from the book, and a golden pin badge in the form of Count Dracula's crest.

The Kickstarter. is running until Thursday 19th March 2026 and, as of writing, is almost 50% funded already.

Gamebook Friday - Dracula: Curse of the Vampire

The Kickstarter campaign to fund a 5th anniversary edition of the hardback of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire, including the bonus chapter brimming with desginer's notes and artist's sketches, launches on Tuesday 3 March 2026, at 1pm GMT.

First published back in 2021, Dracula: Curse of the Vampire reimagines Bram Stoker's classic as an interactive adventure. YOU play as one of three Vampire-Hunters - Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray, and Dr John Seward - or even as the eponymous Count himself.

At 1,000 sections, it is the longest gamebook I have written to date and is illustrated throughout by Hauke Kock.

Some of Hauke's illustrations from the adventure. (Click to enlarge.)

While the book is still availble in paperback and as an ebook, the hardback has been out of print for a while. So, to mark the 5th anniversary of the publication of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire, I am running the forthcoming Kickstarter. Where the original hardback featured a black cover with red lettering, the new edition will have a red cover with black lettering.

The original Dracula: Curse of the Vampire alongside a mock-up of the new edition.

Each hardback comes with a collectible bookmark, a pack of 10 postcards featuring Hauke Kock's artwork, a pair of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire themed black dice, and Dracula's crest in the form of a gold-plated pin badge.

Each book will also be signed by the author, and everyone who backs the Kickstarter will have their name appear within its pages.

Remember, the Kickstarter campaign goes live on Tuesday 3 March 2026, at 1pm.

Gamebook Friday: Drácula, la maldición del vampiro

I realise it's been four weeks since I last posted on here, so apologies for the radio silence. Part of the problem is that I've been busy, but also managed to have a brief holiday. But another part of the problem is that while I've been busy working on gamebook projects, I've either not any significant news to pass on, or I'm sitting on significant news that I can't talk about yet.

However, there is one piece of news that I can now share, and that is... Dracula: Curse of the Vampire is coming to Spain, courtesy of Celaeno Books.

Celaeno Books has now announced the Verkami crowdfunding campaign that will fund production of the book, along with a German gamebook called 1888, Who is Jack the Ripper, by M H Steinmetz, and originally published by my German publisher Mantikore-Verlag.

To find out more about this gruesome gothic twosome, click this link.

Another piece of news I can share is that Raven Distribution announced that they will be publishing the Italian language edition of my first Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebook The Darkness Over Arkham during PLAY Bologna 2025.

Gamebook Friday: Can You Solve the Murder?

This week, I was excited to receive an advanced reader copy of Antony Johnston's new interactive crime novel Can You Solve the Murder?

I was fortunate enough to be a beta reader for this last year. Since then a few changes have been made to the story, including the gender of one of the main characters, so it will be interesting to give it another read now.

Here's the publisher's blurb...

There’s been a murder at Elysium, a wellness retreat set in an English country manor. You arrive to find the body of a local businessman on the lawn – with a rose placed in his mouth. It appears he was stabbed with a gardening fork and fell to his death from the balcony above. But that balcony can only be accessed through a locked door, the key is missing, and everyone in Elysium is now a suspect…

Gather the evidence and examine the clues. Choose who to interview next, and who to accuse as your prime suspect. But remember that every decision you make has consequences – and some of them will prove fatal…

Do you have what it takes? Can YOU solve the murder?

The great thing about Can You Solve the Murder? is that while it isn't a gamebook in the style of Fighting Fantasy or ACE Gamebooks, it isn't simply a branching narrative like a Choose Your Own Adventure story, where everything is revealed at the end.

There are clues to be collected and a puzzle to be solved. At the end, in classic murder mystery style, you have to declare who you think the murderer is. But you can't just guess who it might be - you have to have the evidence to back up your suspicions.

I met Antony Johnston for the first time last year after Fighting Fantasy Fest, despite having both worked for Abaddon Books when the imprint started out, and he is a huge gamebook fan. In fact, he wrote a glowing review of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire.

Can You Solve the Murder? will be published by Penguin Books* in June 2025.

* Parent company of Puffin Books, who originally published the Fighting Fantasy series.

You can check out a sample of the audio below, and register your interest in the crowdfunding campaign here.

The second piece of news is that my first Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebook, The Darkness Over Arkham, is now available from Chameleon Comix in Hungarian.

Gamebook Friday: Nosferatu and the Curse of the Vampire

At the weekend I went to see Robert Eggers' Nosferatu. I had been looking forward to this ever since I first saw the trailer and went to see it as soon as I could so as not to have the film ruined by spoilers on social media.

Now, be warned, this post contains a few spoilers about the film. So, if you have yet to see it but you want to see it, do not read on any further.

Still here? On your head be it, then.

For those who don't know, Eggers' Nosferatu was inspired by the original Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, from 1922, as well as Bram Stoker's gothic horror novel Dracula*. Eggers' film looks stunning - the locations, sets, and cinematography are incredible - but it isn't actually scary. The jump scares are too obvious and well signposted. On top of that, the story is just too well known to terrify. There's some gross stuff but, knowing it's not real, means none of it will actually make you jump out of your skin.

I don't mind that, but I'm still not entirely sure what I think of the film. It's good, but not amazing. That said, I have found myself pondering it over and over this last week, so it has definitely made an impression on me. There are some fantastic images in the film, and probably the most disturbing elements involve what the mere mortals do when their minds cannot cope with the horror they have been subjected to.

It seems the most contentious things about the film involve Count Orlok's appearance, specifically his moustache and the fact that he is naked at pivotal moments in the film. I don't see what all the fuss is about. Dracula had a moustache in Stoker's novel and the undead Strigoi in my Dracula-inspired gamebook haven't bothered to get dressed either.
Count Dracula and an undead Strigoi by Hauke Kock, from Dracula: Curse of the Vampire.

But it is the look of the film that has really stuck with me, so much so that I am considering publishing a new edition of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire next year, with darker and grittier artwork, and a more gothic look altogether.

For now, if you have yet to check out my own take on Stoker's classic, you can order a copy of the sixth ACE Gamebook here.

* The original Nosferatu was effectively a rip-off of Dracula, and Stoker's widow won a copyright case against the filmmakers. All copies of the film were supposed to have been destroyed but, just like the vampiric Count Orlok, it rose again from the dead.

Dracula's Curse Strikes in Brazil

As of today, Dracula: Curse of the Vampire is available in Portuguese courtesy of Brazilian publisher Jambô Editora, under the title Drácula: A Vingança do Vampiro.

I have been sitting on this news for a while, ever since Jambô sent me the fantastic cover art by Brazilian artist Carlos Eduardo Justino.

Drácula: A Vingança do Vampiro is the third ACE Gamebook published by Jambô Editora, the other two titles being Alice no País dos Pesadelos (Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland) and O Maligno Mágico de Oz (The Wicked Wizard of Oz).

Drácula: A Vingança do Vampiro features on the Jambô Editora homepage today.
