The Howl of the Werewolf heard in Finland

Howl of the Werewolf, my fifth Fighting Fantasy gamebook, is published today for the first time in Finnish, by Epic Ermine. Just in time for Halloween.

Only a fool would willingly enter Lupravia, a bleak realm of hungry predators. But you're on your way there because you have no other choice.

You have been the target of a giant wolf's rage and now you feel strange powers growing inside you. The werewolf's curse will turn you into a beast among beasts unless you find a cure before the next full moon.

Will you be able to save yourself in a land ruled by darkness, where everyone trembles at the sound of the werewolf's chilling howl?

In this book, YOU are the hero. All you need is a pencil and an eraser - and you're ready for adventure. You decide which route you take, which creatures you fight, and which deadly trials to undertake. This gamified, interactive book will captivate even those who are otherwise not interested in reading. The book has enough alternative storylines for multiple playthroughs. And the book's stunning illustrations are by world-renowned artist Martin McKenna.

With the publication of Ihmissuden Kirous, Howl of the Werewolf is now available in six different languages - English, Portuguese, French, Spanish, Danish, and Finnish.

If you are a Finnish fan of Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, or a hardcore collector, you can pick up a copy of Ihmissuden Kirous here.

Happy 100th Birthday, Winnie-the-Pooh!

Winnie-the-Pooh, by A. A. Milne, was published on 14th October 1926.

It was precisely because 2026 marks the book's centenary that I crowdfunded 100 Aker Wood earlier this year. 100 years, 100 acres, 100 sections.

The book is now complete and fully laid out. In fact, I was hoping the proof copy of the paperback might arrive before the end of play today, but sadly it didn't. I am also in the process of finalising the order for the collector's hardbacks.

I am really pleased with how the book has turned out. But don't take my word for it. Here's what Victor Cheng, one of the people who play-tested the book, and Mira Manga have had to say about it.

"The melancholic and sombre tone is well-utilised for what I can only describe as a tale of poetic tragedy: the more you discover, the sadder it becomes. It is beautifully written yet depressing to read despite the more hopeful ending (that being a compliment)."
Victor Cheng

“Green’s poignant and powerful prose draws you into a contemplative and transformative journey. Enchanting, moving and magical, this atmospheric adventure will leave you changed. Best played with an open heart and a handkerchief close at hand.”

So, there you go. 100 Aker Wood will be published in January 2027 by ACE Gamebooks.

Congratulations, NewCon Press!

While I was at the Frankfurt Book Fair at the weekend, FantasyCon was taking place in Glasgow.

The Annual British Fantasy Awards Banquet took place on Saturday evening, which included the presentation of the British Fantasy Awards (funnily enough).

I am pleased to report that NewCon Press walked away with the award for Best Independent Publisher.

Unfortunately, Ian Whates, the mastermind behind NewCon Press, was unable to attend, due to poor health. However, I suspect receiving the award went some way to making up for him having to miss FantasyCon this year.

I am also pleased to say that I have been published by NewCon Press no fewer than three times*. First, there was Legends: Stories in Honour of David Gemmell, which included my short story Who Walks With Death.

Then there was Steampunk International, an anthology of new steampunk stories from Finland, Portugal and the UK, which featured my Pax Britannia short story Reckless Engineering.

And most recently, my short story The Wolf in Winter appeared in The Iron Code, another anthology inspired by the works of the legendary fantasy author David Gemmell and edited by Ian Whates.

So congratulations to Ian and the team at NewCon Press for their much deserved win.

* I also commissioned Ian Whates to write a short story for SHARKPUNK.

Gamebook Friday: ACE Gamebooks at the Frankfurt Book Fair

Next weekend, I will be at the Frankfurt Book Fair, with the German publisher of my ACE Gamebooks series, Mantikore-Verlag.

For the occasion, the German language edition of The Wicked Wizard of Oz has been reprinted with a new cover. The publisher is clearly hoping to appeal to the Wicked fanbase, which is fine by me.

The new German cover.

The original German cover.

The original English cover.

I had a great time at the Frankfurt Book Fair back in 2018, where Alice im Düsterland was being promoted, and I spent two hours signing books for devoted Alice fans.

Don't forget - next year I will be publishing a 10th annviersary hardback of The Wicked Wizard of Oz. So, watch this space for more details...

The Tides of Innsmouth - Live Playthrough tonight!

Join your host Ken Boyter tonight on Twitch for a live playthrough of my second Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebook The Tides of Innsmouth.

The decaying town of Innsmouth is awash with sightings of a mysterious sunken pirate junk near the treacherous Devil Reef. Those rumours are an irresistible lure, drawing the Investigators of Arkham to the fog-laden Massachusetts town. But the thrill of discovery quickly wanes when you are faced with hostile locals, a missing marine archaeologist, and a family curse with tendrils that haunt your waking days.

Solve the riddles, overcome tests, and wish for luck as you navigate the rotten streets of the decrepit town and beyond to save the world as you know it.

Gamebook Friday: Dracula - Battesimo di Sangue

I am delighted to report that the Italian language edition of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire is now available for pre-order.

The book's title has had a slight change. Dracula: Battesimo di Sangue translates as Dracula: Baptism of Blood, which is what the French language version is called too.

There are two versions of the cover. The collector's edition, featuring the same cover art as the English edition, by Hauke Kock, and the standard one, which has a brand new piece of art produced by Francesco Crisci*, which is absolutely phenomenal.

I must offer Francesco and the team at Raven Distribution a huge thank you for allowing me to share the new cover art with you here, in full, and without any obscuring text.

So, don't delay and order yours now!

For anyone waiting on the Spanish language edition of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire, I believe it will be published next month.

In other news, the latest episode of ACE Gamebooks: The Gamebook Podcast is out now.

* Who also painted a new cover for the Italian version of Neverland: Here Be Monsters!

From 2:45pm-3:30pm, I will be talking to Morten Gottschalck in the Theater Hall, at the Music Hall Esbjerg, which will be followed by a signing at the gamebook stall in the foyer.

The Danish translation of my Fighting Fantasy gamebook Night of the Necromancer - GENFÆRDETS HÆVN! - is launching at the event, with publisher Faraos Cigarer, featuring brand new cover art by Henrik Exler, who was also at Fighting Fantasy Fest 6, recently.

So, if you are attending Fantasy Festival this weekend, and you see me there, do stop and say hello. Or should that be hej?

ACE Gamebooks: The Gamebook Podcast - Fighting Fantasy Fest 6

It probably hasn't escaped your notice that last Saturday, 5th September 2026, Fighting Fantasy Fest 6 took place at the University of West London in Ealing.

I was there with my new mic wand, courtesy of Hoobynoo, and my cameraperson, and so set about recording some material for the second ACE Gamebooks: The Gamebook Podcast podcast. And you can watch it right here...

We had a few of the FFF6 collectibles left over after the event. So, if you would like a pair of gold FF dice, a copy of the programme, some beermats, or even a City Guard T-shirt, follow this link.

Happy Birthday to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz!

L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was first published on 1st September 1900 - precisely 126 years ago today!

In 2017, I published the second ACE Gamebook, The Wicked Wizard of Oz. Whilst still available in paperback, the hardback had been out of print for some time.

Next year, to mark 10 years since the book first came out, I am going to be running a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of a brand new hardback edition. So, watch this space for more details!

Cthulhu Thursday: Happy Birthday, H P Lovecraft!

Today would have been H P Lovecraft's 136th birthday. An ever-increasing number of my books have been inspired - either directly, or indirectly - by Mr Lovecraft's cosmic horror creations.

Among the most recently published are the ACE Gamebook adventure Shakespeare Vs. Cthulhu: What Dreams May Come, and the Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebooks published by Aconyte Books.

In fact, purely by chance, today I am writing a pitch for another Lovecraftian gamebook. You will have to continue to follow this blog to find out if it graduates beyond just a pitch.

ACE Gamebooks Summer Sale in aid of Darren Pearce

My colleague Darren Pearce has been dealt a terrible hand by fate of late. Only a few weeks after losing his father, his wife died unexpectedly. And then their pet cat passed away as well.

Darren is struggling financially at the moment, so I am offering the PDF of any ACE Gamebook, including Shakespeare Vs. Cthulhu: What Dreams May Come, for just £1 each until the end of the month. Simply click on the image below to access the sale on DriveThruRPG.

All funds raised by this sale will go towards the Pearce family's bereavement costs. If you have been meaning to plug some gaps in your collection, now's the time to do so.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Darren and I in happier times at UK Games Expo 2023.

Gamebook Friday: One month left to back 100 AKER WOOD on Kickstarter!

If you have yet to pledge your support to the 100 AKER WOOD ACE Gamebooks Kickstarter, you have until Monday 7th September 2026 to do so. After that date, Late Pledges will close as the book goes to layout.

Heraldo Mussolini has completed the illustrations for the book, and I have been tinkering with the cover for the paperback. Having thought I would take it one way, this morning I tried something different, and I'm really pleased with it. I think it could work...

That said, nothing is set in stone at this time so, it may well change before 100 AKER WOOD goes to print.

Just make sure you don't miss out on the chance to be part of the Kicktstarter and receive some exclusive rewards that won't be available to people who buy the gamebook later through retail.
