Warhammer Wednesday: Apocalyptic Battles in the 41st Millennium!
Apocalypse is what it's all about in the Warhammer 40,000 universe at the moment, and some of the books the Black Library has produced, that feature apocalyptic battles, are being given a renewed push as a result.
Obviously, the War for Armageddon omnibus gets a mention, which, although it doesn't contain my two Armageddon novels, does include my Black Templars' story The Relic.
And while we're on the subject of apocalyptic battles, several of those that occur within my novel Iron Hands are definitely on the apocalypse scale, so why not check it out?

Warhammer Wednesday: War for Armageddon and the Iron Hands

The stories in question are my 40K short story The Relic, and my 40K novel Iron Hands. The former has been collected* as part of the new War for Armageddon: The Omnibus, which will be available from the Black Library in August.
The latter is Iron Hands, which, thanks to the wonders of ePublishing**, still garners a bit of interest. More recently, it was referenced in a post over on the Warhammer Community page.
So, if you fancy finding out what my Warhammer 40K fiction is like, you know what to do...
* For the umpteenth time.
** And the fact that it was the first novel to feature the 'Flesh is Weak' boys.

Warhammer Wednesday: Tales from the Black Crusades

Tales from the Black Crusades is a collection containing six novels and five short stories telling tales of Black Crusades and other battles featuring the Despoiler and his Black Legion. It's an essential collection of Chaos-tainted tales that includes my ever-popular 40K novel Iron Hands.
But you had better hurry! This is a limited time offer, so grab your eBook bundle from the Black Library today!

Warhammer Wednesday: Still available to buy
I've not had anything out with the Black Library for quite a while, but three of my novels are still available to buy in eBook format.
So if Space Marines are your thing, why not check out Iron Hands? Or if you prefer your action to be old school and Old World, you can download both Magestorm (awesome wizard on wizard action) and The Dead and the Damned (my first novel).

Warhammer Wednesday: Free Shipping Ends Today!
Christmas has been and gone but Black Library's free shipping offer is still going - just. On top of that, it turns out that a couple of my Direct Exclusive titles are down to the last few copies and aren't going to be reprinted.
So if you fancy picking up a copy of the Warhammer 40,000 novel Iron Hands (there are less than 5 copies left!) or The Armageddon Omnibus* (there's a few more of those, but not many more) then follow this link.
* I'm also in the Necromunda Omnibus 2, but I don't get any royalties from sales of that particular title.

Warhammer Wednesday*: The Novels That Never Were
Considering all the books I've written, there's a fair few I haven't written too. I don't mean the Bible, the Complete Works of Shakespeare and the Yellow Pages - I'm talking about the books that at one stage or another I was supposed to write but which, in the end, never came to be. And most of these were supposed to be set in the worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000.
Many of these made it to full synopsis stage and submission (and in some cases second synopsis stage), or, failing that, rough summaries at the end of other proposals. However, for one reason or another, you will never** get to read...
Bounty Hunter - my Necromunda-set Nathan Creed novel.
Legacy of the Damned - the follow-up to The Dead and the Damned (and various other stories besides).

Champions of Armageddon - the conclusion to the Black Templars Solemnus Crusade trilogy set at the time of the Third Armageddon War.
Corpse Taker - the second in the Books of the Dead series (and it was intended to be a series) that began with Necromancer.
Iron Hands: Ex Machina - the sequel to the recently digitised Iron Hands.
Indomitable - my Empire Army novel about the crew of a Steam Tank.
Across the Desert of the Dead - a Khemri-set Path to Victory gamebook, not unlike Shadows Over Sylvania.
Dreadnought - another Warhammer 40,000 gamebook akin to Herald of Oblivion.
* The 13th of November. Spooky and, as they say, unlucky for some.
** Or it is, at best, very unlikely...

Warhammer Wednesday: Iron Hands - the eBook edition
I received a pleasant surprise on Friday when Black Library's weekly newsletter arrived in my email inbox.
That's right, my fourth novel (and my second set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe) is now available as a series of zeros and ones for your eReader of choice.
The Iron Hands Chapter is getting a lot of interest at the moment, thanks to Forge World's Horus Heresy range, but the novel Iron Hands is notable for one reason in particular. It was in that book that I created material that has since become canon in the 40K universe, particularly the names of some of the Iron Hands Clan Companies that you will now find in the latest edition of the Space Marines Codex (just as material that I first wrote for Codex: Chaos formed a vital part of the narrative behind the Battlefleet Gothic game, some of which has more recently appeared in the digital Black Legion Codex: Chaos Space Marines supplement*).
So there you go. You can pick up your eBook version of Iron Hands direct from Black Library here.
* Namely the Eye of Night and Hand of Darkness.

Meet Ferrus Manus!
The young man you see here proudly holding copies of both the original edition of my Warhammer 40,000 novel Iron Hands and the PoD update is... (drum-roll please)... wait for it...

FERRUS MANUS!
Yes, seriously! That's his first name! (For those of you not in the know, follow this link.) How cool is that? And what's even cooler, his name was not only inspired by the Primarch of the Iron Hands Legion/Chapter but by my novel as well. I've never had anybody named after a book I've written before (at least not that I know of).
Thanks to Ferrus's dad Gavin for the photos and thank you to Ferrus Manus himself for endorsing my book. (Some suitable reward will be winging its way to you in the post very soon, via Imperial Carrier Cyber-Pigeon.)

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war

To hear about how Dan Abnett found the experience of writing his latest Horus Heresy novel Know No Fear, click here. (The interview starts at about 01.45.)
And there's an interesting insight into the writing process here by another Horus Heresy author, James Swallow.
Tony Hough, who illustrated my books Knights of Doom and Bloodbones, also illustrated the 40K universe in the early days. And he just so happens to be selling some of those illustrations here.
And lastly, I discovered the other day that The Armageddon Omnibus and Iron Hands (my 40K novels available again as Direct Exclusives from Black Library) are BL's two best-selling PoD reprint titles. Which is nice.

I first wrote for the 40K universe before the foundation of Black Library, contributing colour text to Codex: Tyranids, Codex: Chaos, Codex: Angels of Death, and Epic 40,000. My very first piece for Inferno! Magazine (one of BL's early publications) was a 40K story called Salvation.
If you're curious about my other 40K fiction contributions, click here. And of course this summer sees the publication of Herald of Oblivion, my first Warhammer 40K gamebook.

And They Shall Know No Fear...

Did you know that today is Know No Fear Day? No? Well you do now.
Inspired by Dan Abnett's latest Horus Heresy novel, Know No Fear, Games Workshop stores all over the world are running campaigns in which the forces of Chaos, spearheaded by the Word Bearers Legion, will attempt to destroy the Ultramarines Chapter once and for all.
Here in the UK a number of stores are running Know No Fear-themed campaigns for half term week too, so get yourself over the Games Workshop site and check out what's happening near you.

By the way, the Word Bearers are also the villains of my second Warhammer 40K novel Iron Hands, which is available again now as a Direct Exclusive from Black Library.

Iron Hands - Fracking Awesome!

"This is a great book and well worth the read I have a copy of when it first came out and I am now re-reading it again. It's just as good if not better the second time around."
Isn't it about time you read Iron Hands?

Iron Hands - available now from the Black Library
I popped onto the Black Library website today, only to be confronted by this!

First published in 2004, Iron Hands - my second Warhammer 40,000 novel - is available again as part of the Black Library's Print on Demand range, for only £13.99. (You'll also find The Armageddon Omnibus there.)
So why not treat yourself to a late Christmas/early New Year present to make up for all those socks grandma gave you this year?
With Abaddon the Despoiler’s Thirteenth Black Crusade engulfing the galaxy, Iron-Father Gdolkin and his company are pulled away from the defence of Medusa to honour an ancient oath to the Adeptus Mechanicus. A trail of clues leads Gdolkin to a long-lost world, home to an ancient weapon that might turn the tide of war in the Imperium’s favour. But for Gdolkin, the quest is personal, as this mysterious planet might also contain the answer to the oldest mystery of the Iron Hands Chapter... the resting place of the Primarch Ferrus Manus.

Space Marine - Iron Hands
If you're not a fan of Warhammer 40,000 or video games, then you can safely skip this post and move onto the next one.
Still here? Okay, I'll take it you're a fan, like me...
You are?
Are you sure about that?
The reason I question your excitement is because I've just watched the developers' video showing how you'll be able to customise your Space Marines in multiplayer mode. And do you know what? You can deck out your Space Marine as a battle-brother of the Iron Hands chapter, complete with bionic arms, if you want. I can see myself wiling away many an hour with Iron-Father Gdolkin bringing the Emperor's divine vengeance down upon the heads of His enemies.

In case you didn't know (for example, if you've been away fighting the Great Crusade for the Emperor for the last couple hundred years, or something) I wrote an Iron Hands novel for Black Library which was first published back in 2004 and is available again now from BL's Print on Demand range.
You can order your own, very special copy of Iron Hands here.
And while you're waiting for it to arrive, you can watch the developers' video for yourself right here.
