Dracula is back!

When Dracula - Curse of the Vampire was published last year, the response to the sixth ACE Gamebook was massive. So massive, in fact, that it completely sold out of its initial print run.

I'm delighted to be able to report that, as of today, Dracula - Curse of the Vampire is available once again, now in a print on demand edition from Amazon. And this one has cover quotes!

Over 160,000 words, spread out over 1,000 sections, you can play as the Vampire-Hunters Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray, and Doctor Seward, or you can play as the vampire Count Dracula himself.

Warhammer Wednesday: Inferno! classic reprints

Black Library have released the next batch of classic Inferno! reprints. Each issue is a facsimile of the original magazine, available to print on demand for two weeks only, and you can purchase them as a single collection that will get you issues 26-35!

The period covered by this collection just happens to be the time when I was at my most prolific, in terms of making contributions to Inferno! magazine. Of these ten classic issues, six contain short stories or comic strips by Yours Truly, and they are...

Inferno! #26 - Firestarter! – Necromunda short story

Inferno! #27 - The Nagenhof Bell – Warhammer short story

Inferno! #28 - The Executioner’s Tale – Warhammer comic strip

Inferno! #29 - Bad Medicine – Necromunda short story

Inferno! #32 - The Miner’s Tale – Warhammer comic strip

Inferno! #34 - Mark of the Beast – Warhammer short story

To order the collection of ten issues*, or just the edited highlights, follow this link.

* These issues are available to order until 6:00pm GMT on Saturday 18th July 2020.

Warhammer Wednesday: Inferno!

Almost two months ago, I posted that Black Library's short story anthology Inferno! was coming back, as both a new book and as classic reprints of the original magazines from back in the day. Well the opportunity was too good to miss, so I indulged.

The print quality isn't quite as good as the original magazines, but that's down to them being print on demand rather than printed using traditional repro techniques, but most of the artwork still holds up. And flicking through those first five magazines, I realised I had forgotten quite how much I contributed in those early days.

The reprints of the old mags are no longer available from Black Library, but the new paperback anthology format is, with Inferno! #2 coming in January 2019.

Tie-in Tuesday: Inferno! is back!

In the June of 1997, issue #210 of White Dwarf magazine was published and contained within was a strange pull-out called Inferno! "Issue Zero". It was a teaser for a forthcoming bi-monthly short story magazine, being put out by a new branch of Games Workshop, the Black Library. One of the stories contained within the taster copy of Inferno! was The Hounds of Winter, by Your Truly.

Skip forward 21 years and Inferno! is coming back this week, in the form of a short story anthology, and to celebrate Black Library are making the early issues of the original Inferno! available again through their Print on Demand service. Which means that you can get your hands on hard-to-get-hold-of short stories of mine, including the ever-popular Salvation - a story of Ultramarines, Tyranids and humanity that appeared in Inferno! #1 - and the first ever Nathan Creed Necromunda story Bad Spirits, which appeared in issue #3, not to mention the Kislevite mercenaries versus vampires slug-fest that is Dark Heart, in issue #5.

To find out more, simply follow this link. But don't hang around - this offer is only available for one month!

And in case you're wondering, I wrote a total of 13 short stories for the original incarnation of Inferno! - five Torben Badenov stories, five Nathan Creed stories, two Space Marines stories, and one Warhammer fire wizard story - along with various comic strips and other pieces.

Black Library Friday

Seeing as how it's Black Friday, and the Black Library still have several of my stories on sale, as either eBooks or Print on Demand titles, why not pop along to their website and buy one?

Gamebook Friday: Walk the Path to Victory

You wait a week for a new Gamebook Friday post to appear, and then two come along on the same day.

The reason? Black Library are selling off the rest of their stock of Print on Demand titles, specifically their Path to Victory adventure gamebooks, including my Vampire Counts title Shadows Over Sylvania.

According to New@BL, Shadows Over Sylvania "tells a compelling Warhammer... story that unfolds through your decisions – but watch out, because death could be around any corner (well, on any page)."

It seems that there are just a handful of each Path to Victory book remaining, and when they’re gone, they’re gone.

So if you want to star in your very own Warhammer adventure, you’d best hurry over to blacklibrary.com and secure yours.

Warhammer Wednesday: Rise of the Skaven

Black Library have been making much of their Skaven stories of late, what with the Rise of the Horned Rat in the Old World with the coming of the End Times. The chittering denizens of the Under-Empire have appeared in various of my Black Library stories including Sir Dagobert's Last Battle, the Badenov's Band story The Nagenhof Bell, and quite extensively in my Path to Victory gamebook Shadows Over Sylvania.

All of the above are available direct from Black Library, Sir Dagobert's Last Battle as part of Hammer and Bolter Issue #9, The Nagenhof Bell as part of Swords of the Empire, and Shadows Over Sylvania as its own print on demand title. Just follow the links to find out more and purchase them.

Meet Ferrus Manus!

The young man you see here proudly holding copies of both the original edition of my Warhammer 40,000 novel Iron Hands and the PoD update is... (drum-roll please)... wait for it...

FERRUS MANUS!

Yes, seriously! That's his first name! (For those of you not in the know, follow this link.) How cool is that? And what's even cooler, his name was not only inspired by the Primarch of the Iron Hands Legion/Chapter but by my novel as well. I've never had anybody named after a book I've written before (at least not that I know of).

Thanks to Ferrus's dad Gavin for the photos and thank you to Ferrus Manus himself for endorsing my book. (Some suitable reward will be winging its way to you in the post very soon, via Imperial Carrier Cyber-Pigeon.)

Nathan Creed lives again!

Fans of Underhive bounty hunter Nathan Creed (and I'm proud to say that BL writer Clint Werner is one of them!) will be pleased to hear that the five short stories I wrote back in the day featuring the character are now back in print, thanks to Black Library's Direct Exclusives range.

The five Creed stories (which probably equate to a good-sized novella in terms of word count), presented in chronological order, are:

  • Bad Spirits – Bounty hunter Nathan Creed tracks a monstrous creature that has decimated a ratskin camp. What could this monster be and what are its origins?

  • Mama’s Boys – Hunting the scavvy cannibal Django Kaynn, Nathan Creed finds himself beset by mutants eager to recapture the twisted killer.

  • Boyz in the Hive – Nathan Creed faces his most dangerous foe yet: a savage greenskinned ork that has escaped from an uphive zoo.

  • Firestarter – Nathan Creed tangles with a fearsome mutant with power over fire – but the mutant’s power is rapidly growing out of control…

  • Bad Medicine – The Death Walker, terror of the Underhive, is on the prowl. His target? Nathan Creed.

I always intended there to be more Nathan Creed stories, but with the demise of Inferno! magazine there wasn't an outlet for them and so no more were ever written. Nathan Creed was also supposed to be the subject of my first Black Library novel, but my idea clashed with something being developed for another Games Workshop project that I knew of as Hive Secundus, but which never saw the light of day (as far as I am aware).

When Black Library started publishing Necromunda novels I was disappointed not to be asked to contribute a title then, but I'm thrilled that the Creed stories are available again now - ten years after I wrote the last story Bad Medicine!

To order your copy of the Necromunda Omnibus 2, simply follow this link.

Space Marines

I have recently embarked on a new Space Marines story for Black Library and so decided it was time to dust off my previous Space Marines stories for the reading public.

First off there are my Space Marine novels that are now in print again, thanks to the wonders of Print on Demand technology.

Here's what fans have been saying about The Armageddon Omnibus:

Awesome!!!!!

Love this omnibus...

Amazing omnibus, been looking for these books a long time, great writing, my new favorite BL author.

And here's what they've had to say about Iron Hands:

This is a great book and well worth the read I have a copy of when it first came out and I am now rereading it again its just as good if not better the second time around.

[A] fracking awesome, Space Marine novel, I loved it from start to finish.

Don't forget, you can also pick up my Imperial Fists short story But Dust in the Wind for the eReader of your choice here.

Iron Hands - available now from the Black Library

I popped onto the Black Library website today, only to be confronted by this!

First published in 2004, Iron Hands - my second Warhammer 40,000 novel - is available again as part of the Black Library's Print on Demand range, for only £13.99. (You'll also find The Armageddon Omnibus there.)

So why not treat yourself to a late Christmas/early New Year present to make up for all those socks grandma gave you this year?

With Abaddon the Despoiler’s Thirteenth Black Crusade engulfing the galaxy, Iron-Father Gdolkin and his company are pulled away from the defence of Medusa to honour an ancient oath to the Adeptus Mechanicus. A trail of clues leads Gdolkin to a long-lost world, home to an ancient weapon that might turn the tide of war in the Imperium’s favour. But for Gdolkin, the quest is personal, as this mysterious planet might also contain the answer to the oldest mystery of the Iron Hands Chapter... the resting place of the Primarch Ferrus Manus.

New Books!

So I've received some wondrous items from the Black Library recently.

First up is The Armageddon Omnibus. I love the use of the Black Templar Chapter icon on the chapter headings. The book also features A History of the Most Honourable and Holy Solemnus Crusade which I wrote especially for the omnibus.

Secondly there's the complete Daemonifuge - all three books of it - which also features my Warhammer Warped Visions story Ephrael von Stern - Sister of Sigmar. This has to be the pinnacle of my comics career to date.

And lastly, there's Aurelian by Aaron Dembski-Bowden... 'Nuff said!

Irond Hands available at Games Day

Just a quick one this morning to let you know that my Warhammer 40K novel Iron Hands will be available for sale at this year's UK Games Day on Sunday...

If you can't make it to Games Day, you can order your copy of Iron Hands here.

Amongst the other Print on Demand titles on sale this weekend is Daemonifuge, which contains my Warhammer Warped Visions one-off comic strip Ephrael von Stern - Sister of Sigmar. Looking forward to checking that one out myself...

Daemonifuge - back in print!

Available again from the Black Library, as part of their Print on Demand range, is the complete Daemonifuge. And by complete, I mean, complete!

For - according to my sources, at least - not only has Kev Walker and Jim Campbell's original seminal classic been reprinted but you will also find Daemonifuge Book 2 and the start of Book 3 contained within this mighty tome's covers - along with Ephrael Stern, Sister of Sigmar, which you can read more about here.

Space Marine - Iron Hands

If you're not a fan of Warhammer 40,000 or video games, then you can safely skip this post and move onto the next one.

Still here? Okay, I'll take it you're a fan, like me...

Are you looking forward to the Space Marine video game from THQ as much as I am?

You are?

Are you sure about that?

The reason I question your excitement is because I've just watched the developers' video showing how you'll be able to customise your Space Marines in multiplayer mode. And do you know what? You can deck out your Space Marine as a battle-brother of the Iron Hands chapter, complete with bionic arms, if you want. I can see myself wiling away many an hour with Iron-Father Gdolkin bringing the Emperor's divine vengeance down upon the heads of His enemies.

In case you didn't know (for example, if you've been away fighting the Great Crusade for the Emperor for the last couple hundred years, or something) I wrote an Iron Hands novel for Black Library which was first published back in 2004 and is available again now from BL's Print on Demand range.

You can order your own, very special copy of Iron Hands here.

And while you're waiting for it to arrive, you can watch the developers' video for yourself right here.

The Iron Hands Return

Ace Warhammer author Chris Wraight has announced on his blog that he is currently writing a new Iron Hands novel. My own Iron Hands novel - called Iron Hands, interestingly enough - was first published in 2004 and although I was asked to pitch a sequel and did so, it was never picked up. Since then the Iron Hands have received little love - other than appearing in Graham McNeill's Horus Heresy novel Fulgrim.

However, the original Iron Hands is now available to buy again as part of Black Library's Print on Demand range. It's also consistently appeared on Black Library's website Most Popular list, currently alongside the aforementioned Mr Wraight's Battle of the Fang and the Horus Heresy anthology Age of Darkness. But if you still need persuading as to why you should order a copy for yourself, here's the publisher's blurb for Iron Hands.

You can order your copy of Iron Hands here.

Iron Hands - update

I know that some of you had a bit of a shock the other day, after following up my post about Iron Hands being made available again, due to it being listed as costing £20.00.

Well the Black Library website has been updated with Iron Hands' new cover and the correct price - £13.99 - which I'm sure you'll agree is much more agreeable.

So, what are you waiting for? With original copies of Iron Hands retailing for up to £60.00 elsewhere order your copy from Black Library's Print on Demand range here.

The Armageddon Omnibus

The Armageddon Omnibus is available now as part of the Black Library's Print on Demand range of classic Warhammer and Warhammer 40K novels.

Collected within this very special edition of the book are the short stories Sanctuary and The Relic, and there's even some brand new, original content in the form of A History of the Most Honourable and Holy Solemnus Crusade.

Want to know more about the Black Templars of the Solemnus Crusade and their quest to hunt down the Ork warlord Morkrull Grimskar? Then why not watch the video below?
