Legacy of Dorn: Herald of Oblivion

Tomorrow (15 October 2015) Tin Man Games will be releasing their very first Warhammer 40,000 licensed digital gamebook, Herald of Oblivion. It will be hitting the iOS App Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore all at the same time!

Tin Man have taken the tale of Brother Nabor of the Imperial Fists Chapter and given it the Tin Man treatment. When you play the app, it will turn your digital device into a cogitator, complete with a holographic combat simulator.

This new feature removes the dice-rolling elements of the original gamebook and turns them into a turn-based, first-person combat scenario, where your placement in the battle arena (4-axis movement), weapon choice (ranged or melee) and the decisions of the enemies can impact the outcome of the fight.

This is a completely new departure for Tin Man Games, but one which the team felt would really enhance the experience of battling the denizens of a space hulk. It looks awesome, and reminds me that I need to crack on with Legacy of Dorn Part 2 - Pits of Commorragh...

I have exciting news for you this Gamebook Friday. YOU ARE THE HERO - A History of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks is now available to download to the Android device of your choice, via Google Play.

And yes, before you ask, that is the same book that has garnered 46 5-star reviews on Amazon - and nothing less! ;-)

Bloodbones the App - available for iOS from today!

Having been available for Android users since Christmas Eve, Bloodbones, the app version of my fourth Fighting Fantasy gamebook put together by Tin Man Games, is available for iOS devices from today.

One of the joys that Christmas brought this time was people posting pictures of the copies of YOU ARE THE HERO they received for Christmas on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, along with kind words in many cases. Here are just a few of them...

So go here, enter 'GA7' into the search bar, and please nominate the game. The iOS version achieved a 2nd place ranking when it was released a couple of years ago. Wouldn't it be great if it could achieve 1st place this time around?

Gamebook Friday: Warlock's Bounty

Warlock's Bounty: Revenge of the Sorcerer, continues to receive rave reviews on Google Play.

It's been some time since I last tried a gamebook but I must say I'm impressed with what's available so far. Keep up the good work! (5 stars)

I can't say enough good things about the writing in the story-book-thing, or how much I've enjoyed the 'choose your adventure' style progression. I think more RPGs should be modelled in a manner such as this. (4 stars)

This is a great game, nice story mode with a nicely balanced card-based battle game. I don't have time to learn a complex card system so perfect for me - and tips its hat to Fighting Fantasy books. Well done. (5 stars)

Gamebook Friday: Foreign Edition of the Spider God

When Temple of the Spider God was released for Android devices it was also released in French for French-speaking Android users.

I think (and if anyone knows differently, please let me know) that Temple of the Spider God - or, rather, Le Temple du Dieu Araignée - is the 6th gamebook of mine to be translated into French, and it's received some pleasing reviews.

Here's one from the French app store:

"Le système de jeu est très simple mais permet de jouer rapidement sans que les combats s'éternisent. Les défis sont bien équilibrés, sans donner l'impression que vous vous en sortirez haut la main. The latest Fighting Fantasy adventure, Blood of the Zombies, written by Ian Livingstone himself to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the series, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, is now available for iOS and Android devices courtesy of Tin Man Games.

But how does the app compare to the original processed tree carcass gamebook experience? Well you'll just have to try it out to find out. But to whet your appetite, here's the suitably creepy trailer that's been put out by the Tin Man.
